EDMONDS AQUATIC & COMMUNITY CENTRE
Burnaby, b.c.
This new facility is a 160,000 ft2
two-storey building with underground parking. The City of Burnaby
wanted a LEED Gold standard building that would reduce the
environmental impact of the facility, provide a healthy indoor
environment and reduce operational costs. AME opted for a central
low-temperature heating loop with aerothermal heat pumps and
high-efficiency back-up boilers. Additional heat is recovered from
the exhaust airstream and transferred to the central loop by
water-to-water heat pumps. The centralized mechanical system
alongside the high-performance building envelope and lighting design
have resulted in 72% energy cost savings compared to the MNECB
baseline, which is equivalent to 9 of 10 LEED credits.
