Hamilton Recreation Centre

richmond, b.c.

This project design was for a 5,800 square foot expansion to the existing centre.  The Hamilton Community Centre now boasts 8,600 sqf of health and wellness space, complete with a fitness centre, three multipurpose rooms, two meeting rooms and an expanded administration and reception area. The mechanical system consists of an air to water heat pump which is energy efficient with a low operating cost. In addition, AME selected a high efficiency gas fired boiler as a back-up for the heating system, which provides better heating performance when outdoor air temperature goes down below the set point.  An in-slab heating system was designed for the preschool classroom, which receives hot water from the HVAC system heating source to provide space heating.  The ventilation system source is a heat recovery ventilator with a Heat Pipe Thermal Recovery Cassette, providing energy efficient, air-to-air thermal recovery. The heat recovery ventilator provides improved indoor air quality through humidity control. Solar panels have been selected and installed as a main source for the domestic hot water system with an instantaneous water heater as a back-up for the solar panels.
