Klahoose Multi-Purpose Centre

Squirrel Cove, B.C.

Merrick Architecture was chosen by the Klahoose community to design its new multi-purpose centre in Squirrel Cove, Cortes Island, BC. Its multi-use design incorporates everything from a health wing and fitness centre to a language lab, kitchen facilities, and a 300 person “Great Room”. This impressive 15,000-square-foot building was entirely self-financed by the Klahoose Nation. The AME Group designed condensing boilers to be set up with air source heat pumps. With sustainability a key focus, AME utilized natural ventilation to provide improved indoor air quality, which lends to a healthy space for the Klahoose community, and improved level of functionality during the frequent and extended power outages that occur on the island. Water conserving plumbing was designed throughout the facility to provide both energy conservation and resource savings.
