Terwillegar Community Rec Centre Edmonton, Alberta.   This $80 million, 10,600 m2 facility consists of 8x50m competition lanes, diving platforms, a leisure and wave pool with spray features, a whirlpool for 30 people, a lazy river and waterslide. For this project, the City of Edmonton was looking for a facility that exceeded the standards for pool water quality. AME was hired to provide full building mechanical design including aquatic filtration and disinfection. This facility implemented the German standard Deutsches Institut Normung (DIN) pool standard which has more stringent requirements than National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) standards. Filtration was provided by large anthracite/sand filters with carbon polish finish which has a lower micron particle removal than the traditional high rate sand. Sanitation was provided by an electrolytic salt-chlorine system. Together, these systems have achieved superb water quality under even high municipal bathing loads.   Architect:  Sahuri + Partners
