Developed and operated as a partnership between the UBC Faculty of Medicine and Vancouver Coastal Health, this LEED Gold Certified 5-storey integrated healthcare and research facility unites psychiatry, neurology and neuroscience, addressing all areas of the brain under one roof. Hundreds of scientists, healthcare professionals and UBC Faculty of Medicine students are brought together in a single state-of-the-art facility to learn, treat, and pioneer new treatments and cures for patients affected by brain disease and injury.
This revolutionary, high performance institutional building encompasses outpatient clinical areas, lecture theatres, teaching and research labs, and academic offices. It also contains research clinics, wet and dry bench research space, and academic and administrative offices.
The suite of innovative sustainable strategies, focusing on reduced energy consumption and water conservation, includes; a low temperature (hydronic) heating system, heat recovery through laboratory exhaust, low-flow plumbing fixtures and Thermenex for efficient heat management.
